Paige Majko MA, LPC

Counselor & Psychotherapist

Paige Majko is a Licensed Professional Counselor and EMDR Certified Therapist, passionate about helping clients heal from trauma, navigate life transitions, and discover their own strength. With more than 15 years of experience in mental health—spanning inpatient substance abuse treatment, private practice, and specialized trauma therapy—Paige blends her professional expertise with an authentic, kind, and down-to-earth style that makes clients feel truly seen and understood.

Paige believes that therapy is both a courageous and transformative journey. She describes her clinical presence as “authentic, kind, and direct,” noting that she uses humor appropriately to help clients feel comfortable and safe. “Building a safe space for clients to feel honored and respected is my greatest priority,” Paige explains. “Success and positive outcomes develop as a result of having a good rapport with one another built on trust, safety, connection, and respect.”

Education & Credentials

  • Master of Arts in Counseling – St. Edwards University, Austin, TX

  • Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography/Digital Media – University of Houston

  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) – State of Texas

  • EMDR Certified Therapist (advanced credential through EMDRIA)

  • Certified in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)

  • Certified in The Daring Way™, based on the research of Brené Brown

Therapeutic Expertise

Paige is particularly skilled in working with:

  • Trauma, PTSD, and C-PTSD (including military service members, veterans, and first responders)

  • Anxiety, panic, and stress-related disorders

  • Depression and mood disorders

  • Substance use, addiction recovery, and family dynamics

  • Grief, loss, and life transitions

  • Self-esteem, shame resilience, and empowerment for women and LGBTQ+ clients

  • Family systems and relational dynamics

Her approach is rooted in evidence-based therapies like EMDR, CPT, and CBT, combined with a family systems lens that examines how early experiences shape who we become. “I believe that the family systems we grow up in greatly influence our personalities and how we respond to the complex interactions we experience as humans,” Paige shares. “If I can help a client get to the root of their behavior, it makes it so much easier to create positive, lasting change.”

An EMDR Specialist

Paige is proud to be EMDR Certified, a step beyond standard EMDR training, reflecting her advanced expertise in trauma treatment. She explains:

“Trauma is stored in the nervous system—the body keeps the score. EMDR allows clients to view the event from a different perspective and release the physical symptoms connected to it. I’ve seen clients transform and heal through this process in ways that are truly life-changing.”

Her deep belief in EMDR is personal, too. Paige shares, “I became an EMDR therapist because I worked through my own trauma with EMDR. I know what it’s like to sit in that chair, and I wouldn’t recommend anything I haven’t personally experienced and found helpful.”

Therapeutic Philosophy & Style

Paige’s sessions are organic and collaborative, adapting to the client’s needs in the moment. She often begins sessions with gentle conversation to ease tension, asking about what brings the client in, what they enjoy, and even chatting about hobbies, pets, or favorite books. This approachable, conversational style helps clients feel grounded before delving into deeper work.

While she is highly professional, Paige also values transparency and authenticity:

“I believe being my genuine self allows clients to feel safe enough to practice their own vulnerability. Therapy takes courage, and I want clients to feel respected and empowered in that process.”

What to Expect in Therapy

Your First Session

Paige approaches the first session as an opportunity to ease anxiety, build trust, and get to know you as a whole person—not just a diagnosis or list of concerns.

  • She begins with an open conversation about what brought you to therapy, what you’re hoping to achieve, and what has or hasn’t worked for you in the past.

  • She also enjoys learning about your interests, hobbies, family, pets, or anything that helps you feel more comfortable opening up.

  • Paige shares some of her own background and invites clients to ask questions so the process feels transparent and collaborative.

  • For those meeting virtually, her therapy cat Luna may even pop in and say hello—a lighthearted reminder that therapy doesn’t have to feel intimidating.

Paige is intentional about making sure new clients leave their first session feeling heard, supported, and grounded. “Therapy can feel scary, but I want that first session to be a soft landing—where clients realize they’re safe and not alone,” she says.

Ongoing Sessions

Subsequent sessions with Paige are tailored to your individual needs and flow organically:

  • She checks in at the beginning of each session to see what feels most pressing for you in that moment.

  • Depending on your goals, she integrates EMDR, CBT, CPT, or other therapeutic techniques—but always with flexibility.

  • Some sessions may involve processing deeper trauma, while others focus on problem-solving or simply talking through a challenging week.

Importantly, Paige prioritizes emotional safety:

“I never send clients out of session feeling activated. Before we end, we ground, review coping skills, and ensure you leave feeling steady and supported,” she explains.

Her collaborative style means that therapy feels like a partnership, with clients actively involved in shaping their healing journey. “Each person’s sessions look different because each person’s story is different,” Paige adds.

Who Paige Works Best With

Paige connects especially well with teenagers and young adults, drawn to their openness and creativity, as well as women navigating self-esteem or self-worth challenges. Certified in The Daring Way™, she incorporates the research of Brené Brown on shame resilience and self-compassion to help clients build confidence and self-love.

She is also deeply committed to working with the LGBTQ+ community:

“I’m an ally and have many friends in this community. It’s important to me that my clients feel safe to speak freely and openly, without fear of judgment.”

Paige’s clinical interests also include working with first responders, military service members, and veterans:

“I admire their bravery and dedication. PTSD and trauma are treatable, and I feel honored to help those who’ve sacrificed so much begin to heal.”

Her background in addiction counseling gives her a unique perspective on recovery as well. Having lost loved ones to addiction, Paige brings both clinical expertise and heartfelt empathy:

“Addiction is a family disease, and I’ve seen how it can devastate families. Guiding someone toward recovery is some of the most fulfilling work I do.”

A Counselor Who Understands Life’s Challenges

Paige’s personal history deeply informs her work. She has experienced her own journey through recovery, chronic health challenges, and profound grief. She lost her partner to addiction in 2018 and her mother in 2024—losses that she describes as “devastating in their own unimaginable ways.”

“Because I’ve walked through grief and healing myself, I know how hopeless it can feel—and I also know it’s possible to come out the other side. That’s why I sit with clients in those dark places. I’ve been there. I know it’s scary, but I also know it gets better.”

Personality & Approachability

Paige is insightful, empathetic, and deeply attuned to others. She is naturally a gifted emotional empath who is intune with unspoken feelings and creates a calm, comforting presence where clients feel understood. Her intuitive, reflective style means she often “connects the dots” in ways that help clients feel seen on a profound level.

Clients describe her as warm and approachable, but also clear and direct when needed:

“I’m not afraid to be honest,” Paige says, “but I always balance that with kindness, humor, and deep respect for my clients.”

Life Outside the Therapy Room

Paige’s personal passions add depth and relatability to her therapeutic presence. She is a lifelong music lover, especially rock and metal: “It’s a toss-up between Led Zeppelin and Tool,” she laughs. She’s seen Tool live multiple times over the past 30 years and enjoys the creativity and energy that music brings into her life.

She’s also an artist and dancer, expressing herself through drawing, crafting, and movement. Gardening and decorating bring her joy, while being near water—whether swimming, kayaking, or simply relaxing at the beach—recharges her spirit: “The beach is my happy place,” she says, noting the aquatic tattoo sleeve that reflects her love of the ocean.

Paige is active and adventurous but also enjoys quiet moments: reading fiction, lounging in a hammock, or cuddling with her therapy cat Luna. Luna occasionally joins telehealth sessions, offering an unexpected dose of comfort and calm.

Favorite Quotes & Inspirations

Paige often draws inspiration from her favorite thinkers, blending their wisdom into her therapeutic philosophy:

  • “I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become.” – Carl Jung

  • “The dark does not destroy the light; it defines it. It's our fear of the dark that casts our joy into the shadows.” – Brené Brown

  • “EMDR gives the brain a second chance to reprocess the traumatic memory, thus transforming it into an adaptive resolution.” – Esly Regina Carvalho

  • “Nothing ever goes away until it has taught us what we need to know.” – Pema Chödrön

Favorite Therapy Books

Paige is an avid reader and often integrates knowledge from her favorite therapy and trauma-related books into her practice:

  • Getting Past Your Past by Francine Shapiro – A deep dive into EMDR and its transformative effects.

  • The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk – Exploring how trauma imprints on the mind and body.

  • The Body Remembers by Babette Rothschild – A practical guide for understanding somatic trauma responses.

  • Waking the Tiger by Peter Levine – A look at trauma recovery through the lens of somatic experiencing.

  • The Theory and Practice of Group Psychotherapy by Irvin Yalom – An influential work on group therapy dynamics.

These works reflect her deep passion for trauma-focused care, blending neuroscience, psychology, and compassionate practice.
