Safety Resources:
Crisis Symptoms & Safety Concerns
If you or someone you know is experiencing any of the symptoms below, it’s crucial to seek professional help immediately. To seek help, go to your nearest emergency room or call 911.
Suicidal Ideation
Thoughts of wanting to end one's life or making plans to do so. This can include talking about death, expressing hopelessness, or having a detailed plan for suicide.
Psychosis
Experiencing a loss of contact with reality, which can include hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that aren't there), delusions (strongly held false beliefs), or severe paranoia. Individuals experiencing psychosis may have difficulty thinking in a logical or coherent manner.
Self-Injurious Behaviors
Deliberate harm to oneself, such as cutting, burning, or hitting oneself. These actions are often a way to cope with emotional pain or distress.
Eating Disorder Crisis
​Severe issues related to eating disorders, such as extreme restriction of food intake, binge eating, purging, or a significant drop in weight. These behaviors can lead to serious health complications.
Homicidal Ideation
Thoughts or plans of harming or killing others. This includes expressing a desire to hurt someone, making threats, or planning violent acts.
Change in Mental Status
Confusion, disorientation, or a significant change in behavior or personality. This might include severe mood swings, memory problems, or difficulty thinking clearly. This includes pervasive confusion and difficulty providing information like one's name, address, or date of birth.
Medication Reaction
Adverse effects from medications, such as severe allergic reactions, unexpected side effects, or interactions with other medications that cause physical or mental health problems.
Hostile, Aggressive or Violent Behavior
​Intense anger or hostility that leads to aggressive actions or violence towards others. This can include physical fights, destroying property, or uncontrolled rage.​
Abusive Behavior That Puts One At Risk
Experiencing or exhibiting abusive behavior, whether physical, emotional, sexual, or verbal, that poses a risk to one’s safety. This includes domestic violence, bullying, or any behavior that threatens someone's well-being.​
Substance Abuse or Chemical Dependency Crisis
Uncontrolled use of drugs or alcohol that leads to physical or psychological harm. This can include overdosing, withdrawal symptoms, or inability to stop using despite negative consequences.
